FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- A total of 11 militants were killed and three others injured as fighting planes struck Taliban gathering in Raghistan district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province on Sunday, said an army statement released here Monday.

A group of Taliban militants were gathered in Randikhan area of the restive district to launch attacks on security checkpoints but the national army's fighting planes targeted the gathering Sunday afternoon, killing 11 insurgents including their commander Qari Masab and injuring three others, the statement said.

A hideout of the militants was also destroyed during the raids, the statement further said.

According to the statement, no security personnel or civilians had been hurt in the airstrikes.
