TOKYO -- Reports and consultations regarding domestic violence in Japan reached a record high last year, as more people spent time at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, police data showed Thursday.

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan -- Fourteen villagers were killed and three others wounded after an avalanche struck a far-flung area in the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan on Thursday, a local government spokesman confirmed.

ADDIS ABABA -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Thursday said that at least 20 African migrants died off the coast of Djibouti.

"At least 20 people have drowned after smugglers threw dozens of migrants overboard early Wednesday morning during their journey from Djibouti to Yemen, the third such incident on the Gulf of Aden in six months," the IOM said in a press statement. (Djibouti-Migrants-Died)

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 11,385 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, up from 10,535 a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Thursday.
